Nine Inch Nails has released their first, uh release without a record label, Ghosts I-IV, a 36 track, instrumental album, over two hours of music. You can download the first 9 tracks for free or the whole album for $5 in your preferred file format. It’s released under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike license, under which you can share it or remix it-the RIAA is currently trying to figure out how they can sue people for filesharing this as we speak (which they can’t, but they’d like to.) I don’t know if the music is any good as I’m downloading right now, over a sloooow DSL connection, 110 of 284 MB for MP3 format.
Speaking of music, remember that wacky Van Halen semi-reunion tour? It may or may not be cancelled, but at this point who really cares? Via Kaylow.
In other news: the weather in Maine stays mainly on crappy!

You’re a petulant, whiny brat. You’re short, dim and ugly; Valentines Day is a poor excuse for a holiday. No one ever says how much they love February, cause what have you done for anyone lately?
What’s the reason for building a high-performance $105,000 hybrid? If you’re spending a hundred grand (plus) on a car, why are you buying a hybrid? Perhaps you’re an A-list celebrity (or politician) who’s had enough of all that ‘I’m just a regular person driving a Prius’ claptrap. I bet Barack wishes he’d seen this before he traded the 300C for that Escape Hybrid. It does look a lot better than a Prius all the other hybrids available now.
Things have been stupid crazy. We sold a house/bought a house, remodeled the house, moved, had pregnancy complications and a baby early. Christmas was the cherry on top.
Everyone is doing well, but damn. I can’t wait to be bored!
Amazon trotted out it’s new music store in delicious DRM-free MP3 format. When I read about it I almost pooped myself.
I headed over, browsed a few minutes and downloaded Year Zero by NIN. It worked flawlessly, there is a helper program that does the downloading and automatically adds it to your iTunes library. Went back the next day and bought The Mix-Up by the Beasties. I almost bought the Kooks new album tonight, but I read the singer puts on a phony accent when sings, so I didn’t.
It’s Amazon-ugly, but it’s cheaper and it does work with iTunes/iPods (and whatever else there is) give it a try if you’re looking to buy some music you can stream around without that pesky DRM.

Looky here, this is interesting. Daddy Daze and Honea Express are having a nice little wager. Head Daddy Dave is sure the Yankees will continue their choking streak in their 3 game series with the Red Sox. Mr. Honea takes umbrage at that notion. The loser has to put a video lowlight of their team on their site for a week, wear a pair of questionable Crocs and shave their head. I made those last two up.
I feel like I need to represent, so I’m with Dave, but 16 to zip? Hello? Anyone there?
UPDATE: “Resurgent Yankees…” why am I not surprised?
I read an article that 25% of Americans hadn’t read a book in the last year. Apparently magazines (and blogs) don’t count.
Okay, I probably read some books, but honestly, not very many. Part of the problem is that we have one bedroom and a daughter. I have gone to bed in the dark since my daughter came home from the hospital. It will be 23 months Thursday (whoa-23 months already?!?) The rest of the problem is that I just haven’t taken the time to read and that’s my fault.
Recently I along with 12 million other Americans, read the latest Harry Potter book. I got thinking, the last thing I remember reading before that is the previous HP book which came out two years ago. Nice. I love reading, but it’s easy to blow off among all of life’s other responsibilities.
So I’m up to two and a half books for this year so far and that’s starting in July. I’m going to try to keep the reading thing going and ignore the new TV season: damn you reality TV!

We don’t plan these things, unless you consider using the rhythm method planning. Which, FYI, according to the wikipedia arcticle has a 25% failure rate.
We’ve always planned on two kids. Two is a good number, you’ve got parent-child parity. Pretty much everything is built for two kids: backseats, three bedroom houses, et cetera. There’s nothing wrong with 3 or more kids, it’s just that two is good for us. Peanut 1.0 will be a little over two, which is a good spread, agewise.
We haven’t found out what we’re having yet, couldn’t tell last time. I think the child’s got my nose, don’t you?

So, it’s Harry Potter day. The penultimate Harry Potter day, the last! Got your copy yet? If you don’t you can head down to your local, uh, anywhere and getit. Borders, Target, Wal-Mart, etc… Shaw’s (a supermarket chain) has ‘em, the gas station convenience stores probably have a bunch.
Pottermania bypassed Target apparently, they’ve got loads of copies all for $17.99. It’s funny how fast the excitement all ends. It’s like Christmas, a huge buildup, then it’s done and what’s the next big thing?

I’m Starbucks worst customer, I drink probably the least profitable drink they make: drip coffee. Coffee of the day, (bold roast) grande, black. Works for me and it’s only $1.75, the cheapest thing there. You can see my drink order there on the left, I guess that makes it my Starbucks avatar. It’s from drinkshirt.com a website that will put your drink order (hot or cold) on a t-shirt.
Cool idea, but I’m not enough of a Starbucks geek to buy (or wear) one.
